Austria is being tipped for more movie glory after Austrian artists picked up awards at last night’s (Sun) Golden Globes.

Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s World War II satire "Inglorious Basterds", while Michael Haneke’s film "Das weiße Band" (The White Ribbon) bagged Best Foreign Language Film at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.

Waltz, who lives in London and Berlin, was recently confirmed as starring in a big screen adaption of American 1930s radio series "The Green Hornet". Waltz – who played late German crooner Roy Black in 1996 TV film "Du bist nicht allein – Die Roy Black Story" – reportedly beat Oscar winner Nicolas Cage to the role of the villain in the action comedy set for a December 2010 release.

Austrian director Michael Haneke's black and white film "Das weiße Band" (The White Ribbon) won Best Foreign Film at last night’s Golden Globes Awards after taking the Palme D’Or (Golden Palm) at the Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year.

The movie – which tells the story of a German town shortly before World War I – also won Best Film, Best Director and Best Script at the 2009 European Film Awards.

They didn't talk about it on the radio here in Germany.  When I watch Austrian news on the internet, I found that it was the headline news of the day.  It seems Austrian are so proud of these achievements.   BTW I have not seen the above two movies.  Especially Austrian movies I don't watch in the cinema.  I will wait until the release of the DVDs because there are English subtitles.
